Spring forests come alive with this all time favorite of wildflowers! Boasting a lovely blue bloom that tolerates full sun to partial shade, and also carrying with it a romantic legend that has made it's name famous, the forget-me-not is a wildflower you will want to be sure to add to your collection! Eye-catching, petite, star-shaped flowers are perfect for the front of the garden, or as a companion to spring bulbs.

There is a legend from the Middle Ages about a knight and his lady who were walking near a river. He was picking flowers for her and wearing heavy armor when he accidentally fell in the river. Before he sunk below the water, he threw the flowers to her, shouting, "Forget me not!" Lovers wore Forget-Me-Nots in 15th century Germany to remember each other when they were apart. Since these times, the flower has been associated with romance, faithfulness, and everlasting love.

Seed packets make beautiful 'green' wedding favors and will inspire your guests to plant something beautiful in remembrance of your love and commitment.

One of the most beloved wildflowers, this true blue beauty captivates gardeners worldwide. Plant this annual en masse or as a border for an unforgettable spring bloom. Do not confuse this original wildflower with the Chinese Forget Me Not.

~ planting ~

Direct sow in early spring after the last chance of frost. Plant the seeds just below the surface of the soil, and keep the soil consistently moist until germination. When the seedlings can safely be handled, thin or transplant for wider spacing. These seeds can also be planted in the fall for possible spring blooming.

~ growing ~

Keep both young and mature plants moist, since this plant naturally grows in wetlands and appreciates constantly moist but well-draining soil. When planted from seed, full blooming will occur in the second spring. Once fully grown, these short-lived perennials will reseed vigorously for a new crop the next year. New seedlings can easily be transplanted. This plant makes an excellent choice for borders, ground cover, or in masses among other spring blooming plants.

~ harvesting ~

For cut flowers, choose stems with flowers that have just opened. Strip the foliage that will fall below the water level, and place in water immediately.
